Mitch Robinson

Mitch Robinson is:

Known as Robbo / Mitch, partner to Emma, father of 3, a former AFL Player, Gaming Professional and a rising Social Media Star.

 

In The Beginning..

Born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1989 his career started in 2008 where Robbo played for a couple of local teams; the Tasmanian Devils and the Tassie Mariners. He also was picked for the AFL Under 18s Championship, winning the Hunter-Harrison Medal as the best player in Division 2. His performances were such that Carlton came calling and selected him in the 2008 AFL National Draft.

 

Career in Aussie Rules, v1.0

2009, the AFL season gets underway and Robbo’s career was up and running as he makes his debut in Round 1 against Richmond at the M.C.G., scoring three goals. Through his first two seasons at the club, Robinson played 26 of 46 possible games for the Blues with time also spent at the VFL club Northern Bullants.

It was however in the 2011 season when he became a regular in the side as a combative midfielder and vital ball-winner at midseason. Such was his impact he went on to finish seventh in the John Nicholls Medal count for the season and was then selected to represent Australia in the 2011 International Rules Series.

After 100 games and 58 Goals Robbo left Carlton at the end of 2014, during his time there he established himself as a Blues fans’ favourite for his near kamikaze approach to winning the ball.

 

Career in Aussie Rules, v2.0

In late 2014 Mitch was on the move again, leaving Victoria behind and heading to Queensland having signed with the Brisbane Lions. His impact at his new club was instantaneous as in his first full season he was the joint winner of the Merrett–Murray Medal, Brisbane’s best and fairest.

During his 8-year spell at the Lions, Robbo played 147 games and scored 71 goals. There was also other personal achievement during his time at the club as he was awarded the player’s player in 2019 as well as receiving an All-Australian nominee honours in 2019 and 2020, At the end of the 2022 season, aged 33, he announced via Instagram that he was hanging up his boots and retiring from the sport.

In a fitting finale to one of the most popular players in AFL, Robinson and his family were given a guard of honour as the team ran out in his final game at the Gabba. In front of a sold-out crowd in Brisbane Robbo’s Lions narrowly won the elimination final over Richmond.

 

Gaming Skills

Robinson’s passion for competitive gaming started when he was young after trying a few games he found his preferred game genre, in first person shooters like Counter-Strike or Quake before finding his way onto playing Fortnite.

So, when he wasn’t fighting for the ball or scoring goals Robbo established himself as something of a gaming star. In 2018 he signed up with the professional e-Sports Fortnite team The Chiefs Esports Club something he continues to be an active part of still to this day, his Twitch channel https://www.twitch.tv/MitchRobinson currently has 25k followers.

At the Australian Open’s Fortnite tournament in 2020, Robbo realised that video gaming was heading to another level.. “When I competed in the Fortnite competition that was held at Margaret Court in Melbourne, that was the thing that really showed me that e-Sports has now become the real deal.”

In January 2020 Mitch showed his passion for gaming by hosting a 24-hour charity stream on Twitch playing Fortnite to raise funds for and creating awareness of the efforts the NSW Rural Fire Service were having at the time. He prides himself very much on being a Fortnite OG!

Social Media Star

Since his retirement from AFL, Robbo has built upon his social media presence and become compulsive viewing for fans of Aussie Rules as well as getting some up close and personal content with his mates and family. Mitch brings banter, humour, and insights from behind the scenes in his regular vlogs. With about 40k followers on Twitter, 50k subscribers on YouTube and about 100k on both Instagram and TikTok he continues to grow his online community.

 

Best of Robbo

We recently sent Robbo out and about as our ‘roving reporter’ during the recent LIV Golf event in Adelaide, where he searched for South Australia’s best dressed, and decked himself out courtesy of Joe to sink a few beers at the party hole, and check out the immaculate fairways of The Grange Golf Club. How good must it have been to witness Chase Koepka’s hole in one, incredible scenes!

Robbo’s live YouTube content from the MCG when he was in the crowd watching the AFL Grand Final 2023 is one of the highlights of the year. It shows his passion and love of the sport and continuing affection for the Brisbane Lions. About 6 months ago Robinson launched his latest vlog, The Robcast, an easy going relaxed talk show.

As a UFC Fan there’s some fantastic interviews with some of the top fighters in the sport, one of his reels which gained plenty of attention on Insta was Robbo with Israel Adesanya in what is a great moment presenting a pair of indigenous designed shoes created by his partner Emma.

Mitch also gets to mix it with the biggest and meanest sports stars on the planet – this post instantly became an all-time classic on TikTok when he met and had a brief exchange with the world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

There is more personal content on X with his son making a few very funny cameo appearances. In the following link Robbo receives a commemorative gift to celebrate his very first win cementing himself as a Fortnite OG.

 

Returning Home

Since bringing a close to his AFL career, Robbo has spent time with both the Darwin Buffaloes in the Northern Territory Football League and the Morningside Panthers in the Queensland Australian Football League. Aussie Rules is in his blood and the next stage in his career has him set to go full circle. The midfielder has confirmed he is to return to playing footy with the Lauderdale Bombers back in his home state of Tasmania in 2024.
