King Charles ‘worried’ Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Australian visit will ‘damage relations’ following petition

Former royal butler Grant Harrold lifts the lid on how the royals will be responding to the new petition.

A new petition from Beyond Australia, amassing more than 35,000 signatures, demands that no taxpayers’ money should be spent on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming visit to Australia.

While Harry and Meghan’s trip to Australia remains a private visit, former royal butler Grant Harrold, who previously worked for King Charles, has addressed the recent petition and revealed how the King will be feeling ‘worried’ over his son’s upcoming visit.

Speaking with JoeFortune, Grant explains that while King Charles and Queen Camilla won’t be‘upset’, they may be concerned over this visit spurring on more discussions about the monarchy, which could potentially ‘damage relations’.

Speaking to JoeFortune, former royal butler Grant Harrold reveals:

Will the Royal family be upset by this?

“They won’t necessarily be upset, but they will be interested that there is a petition out there saying that they should pay for themselves. This is obviously not against the King and Queen; it is against Harry and Meghan in this case, and they are saying that they are paying. I don’t think the Royal family will be upset, though.”

Do Harry and Meghan have damaged relations in Australia?

“I don’t think it will have damaged relations with the family; it’s a private visit, so I don’t think there will be damage on that front. It wouldn’t damage relations in Australia.”

Why don’t you think the Australians who have signed the petition don’t want them there?

“Australia doesn’t tend to agree with the monarchy at the best of times. The fact that they will have non-working members of the royal family going to Australia, they will probably have a warm welcome, possibly. Monarchy in Australia is a big debate at the moment, and if anything, that will worry the King, because they’re trying to keep relations good with Australia. They won’t
want Harry and Meghan going there, and causing any more upset, or spurring on more protests or discussions about the monarchy off the back of it. That is what the King and Queen won’t want to happen while they’re out there. That is possibly how damage could potentially happen. When they’re there, if they do anything to cause any upset, it could potentially open up the debate about the monarchy all over again.”
