33 Reality TV Shows Axed in 2024 in Australia

We’ve seen a whole host of reality TV shows come and go in recent times in Australia, but you might not know the full extent which have been axed in the past couple of years. So here’s Joe Fortune Casino’s 33 popular (and not so popular) reality TV shows listed below that no longer air on our televisions.

The Bachelor

The Bachelor Australia was officially axed in 2024 after 11 seasons. Once a ratings juggernaut, the show struggled to maintain relevance in recent years amid changing viewer habits and criticism around its outdated format. Network 10 confirmed the decision, marking the end of an era for Aussie reality romance.

 

The Masked Singer

The Masked Singer Australia was cancelled in 2024 after five colourful seasons. Despite its star-studded panel and outlandish costumes, ratings steadily declined. Network 10 cited shifting audience preferences as the reason behind the decision. The quirky singing competition will be remembered for its surprise reveals and chaotic, campy energy.

Millionaire Hot Seat

The 5-6 weekday slot won’t be the same without this ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire’ spin off quiz show hosted by the lovable Eddie McGuire. Known for coining a phrase in Aussie culture, Channel 9 finally said ‘Lock it out Eddie!’ in 2024.

Ninja Warrior

This reality show fell at the final hurdle in 2022 after running across the Nine network since 2017. The show saw ordinary Australians defy gravity and strength, with the ultimate aim of making it up Mount Midoriyama for victory.

Shaynna Blaze’s Country Home Rescue

Country Home Rescue with Shaynna Blaze was cancelled in 2024 after just one season. Despite its heartfelt focus on family and heritage restoration, the series struggled to secure a strong audience. Network Nine opted not to renew the show, citing underwhelming viewership amid a competitive reality TV landscape.

Kate Langbroek’s My Mum, Your Dad

My Mum, Your Dad, hosted by Kate Langbroek, was cancelled in 2024 after two seasons. Despite initial success, Nine pulled the plug amid shifting priorities and a crowded programming slate. The show’s heartfelt premise; single parents seeking love while their adult children secretly guided them, offered a fresh take on dating TV but ultimately couldn’t secure a long-term spot.

Celebrity Apprentice

Despite feeling the wrath of Alan Sugar, Channel 9 decided to say ‘You’re Fired’ to the long running series which has aired since 2011. Previous winners of the business game show include Sophie Monk, Shaynna Blaze, and Benji Marshall.

Beauty And The Geek

Beauty and the Geek Australia was officially cancelled after its eighth season. Despite a heartfelt revival hosted by Sophie Monk, the show struggled to maintain strong ratings. Network Nine confirmed it would not return, marking the end of its quirky charm and transformative makeovers.

SAS

SAS, the popular forces style reality show, starring Ant Middleton and his directing staff, will no longer be on our screens. Channel 7 chose to eliminate the series, which showed celebrities in tricky and compromising situations in a remote location.

The Traitors

The Traitors is a reality competition where contestants try to win a prize through lies and deception. A few are secretly “Traitors” who eliminate the “Faithful,” while the Faithful try to identify and banish the Traitors. It aired on Network 10 in 2022 and 2023 for two seasons but wasn’t commissioned for a third. Viewers complained that the second season had lost some of its quality in comparison to the first.

This Is Your Life

This Is Your Life surprises a famous Australian, presenting their life story through anecdotes and appearances by loved ones. It has been aired multiple times on different networks since 1975 and was once a very popular TV show. Its most recent revival was in 2022-23 on the Seven Network, but it has not aired since.

Blow Up

Blow Up, which aired in 2023, saw ten balloon artists compete to create impressive balloon artworks. Hosted by Stephen Curry and Becky Lucas, with Chris Adamo judging, the winner received $100,000. Despite initial promotion, the balloon soon burst with the show suffering from low ratings on Channel Seven before being moved to their secondary channel, 7flix, for the remaining episodes. It was not renewed for a second season.

Million Dollar Island

Million Dollar Island was a TV survival show where the rules of society don’t exist. Not only do the 100 contestants have to survive on a remote island for the chance to win $1 million, they also have to earn their fortune from the other contestants by whatever means necessary whether it be stealing, deception or disorder. Despite a high production cost on the show by Seven, filming for the new show had to be halted due to the discovery of asbestos on the production set in Malaysia in 2022. Although there were plans to commence filming in 2023, this never happened and the show has not aired since.

We Interrupt This Broadcast

We Interrupt This Broadcast was a comedy format where comedians played out sketches from popular and unpopular TV shows in Australia. It first aired in March 2023 but by May, out of respect, it was cancelled by Seven, due to the tragic death of a Masterchef judge Jock Zonfrillo, a show which often featured as part of the sketches on We Interrupt This Broadcast.

The Voice: Generations

The Voice: Generations was another variation of the original TV hit show The Voice. Featuring groups of families and friends, contestants in Generations were singers from all different age groups who came together to sing and showcase their talent as one. Although the series hasn’t been officially cancelled, The Voice: Generations only aired for one season in December 2022.

Big Brother VIP

Australia’s latest incarnation of the worldwide show, hailed as one of the original reality shows, was voted out by both Network Ten and Nine, after an ‘on and off’ relationship with our screens since 2022.

Holey Moley

Holey Moley, which aired in 2021, saw minigolf fanatics and pro players compete in a bracket-themed minigolf tournament. Players would navigate fun, challenging and elaborate themed-courses, with each episode’s winner receiving a plaid jacket, a golden putter and an entry to the grand final which had a $100,000 prize. Although the show had a fun concept and attracted over a million viewers for the first episode, the series garnered lower than expected ratings and hasn’t been aired since 2022.

Ultimate Tag

Taking a childhood favourite game to the next level, Ultimate Tag, saw contesting players run, spin, jump and dodge their way around a course whilst being chased by elite “Pro Taggers” with the ultimate goal of not being caught. Originally aired on Seven’s main channel, after just three episodes the show was moved to the channel’s sister 7flix due to unexpectedly low viewing figures. It was therefore no surprise to hear that by the end of first the series Ultimate Tag had run its course and was axed.

Wife Swap

Two families with contrasting lifestyles swap wives for a set period of time in Wife Swap. With the show exploring how each wife and family adapts to the different routines and parenting styles. Despite originally first airing in 2012 for ten episodes, a revival of the show was aired in 2021 but was cancelled after just one season.

House Rules

Entrusting couples from different Australian states competed to renovate each other’s homes before scoring points by a design expert to determine the overall winner in House Rules. Despite airing for eight consecutive seasons, the show was axed in October 2020 by the Seven Network

Plate of Origin

Plate of Origin was like the World Cup of cooking where teams representing different countries competed and cooked international cuisines, in an attempt to determine which nation would be crowned the best food cuisine in the world. Airing in August 2020 on Seven, it was decided that no second series would be commissioned.

Pooch Perfect

Pooch Perfect saw dog stylists compete in themed grooming challenges to transform their pooches into unique and stylish canines. The show hosted by none other than Rebel Wilson culminated with the overall winner claiming $100,000 and the title of Australia’s Greatest Pet Stylist. Despite Rebel Wilson’s high profile and the nation’s love for dogs, the show just didn’t cut it and was cancelled after just one season in January 2022.

The Beach House Escape

The Beach House Escape was due to be aired in 2021 with the show helping people realise their lifelong ambition of escaping the city where an idyllic coastal home is ready for a complete makeover with contestants competing for this. Unfortunately the show under that title never aired but a similar concept show, Beach House Hunters, has been airing since 2023.

Rush

Rush was a travel adventure series where 12 contestants are divided up into teams as they seek to complete tasks in various countries facing both physical and psychological challenges and elimination. It aired on Nine in July 2023 but only lasted just one series, as the show was cancelled shortly after.

Snackmasters

Snackmasters featured top chefs competing to perfectly recreate iconic Australian snacks. Hosted by Scott Pickett and Poh Ling Yeow, with Yvie Jones as the “Snack Detective”, the show offers a unique culinary challenge. Despite two seasons airing in late 2021 and late 2022, viewers lost their appetite for the show and Channel Nine confirmed in May 2023 that Snackmaster would not be returning for a third season.

This Time Next Year

This Time Next Year, hosted by Karl Stefanovic, was a TV series where participants pledged to achieve personal goals within a year, with their transformations revealed to the audience by the end of the show. Airing on Nine Network from 2017 to 2019, it was cancelled after two seasons due to high production costs and declining viewership.

Most Identical

Australia’s Most Identical was due to be a two-part special on Nine Network, hosted by Scott Cam and Dr Jana Pittman. The show features 100 sets of twins undergoing scientific and entertaining challenges to determine the nation’s most identical pair. Although announced in 2022, its airdate has been delayed multiple times, and as of May 2025, it has still not yet aired. The show has not been officially cancelled, but its future remains uncertain.

Studio 10

Studio 10 was a morning talk show on Network 10, featuring news, entertainment, and panel discussions. It aired from 2013 to 2023. The show struggled with declining viewership and the conversation fell silent when It was cancelled in December 2023.

Would I Lie To You

Would I Lie to You? was a comedy panel show where celebrity guests tell often seemingly farfetched stories, and opposing teams guess if they are true or false. Based on the UK format, it premiered in 2022 on Network 10 but the show was cancelled after just one season and that’s no lie!

The Real Love Boat

The Real Love Boat Australia was a reality dating show set on a cruise, where singles looked for love through challenges and romantic dates. Premiering in 2022 on Network 10, The Real Love boat quickly sank and was cancelled after one season due to low ratings and poor reviews, with the network pulling it from prime-time just weeks after its debut.

The Bachelorette

The Bachelorette first aired in 2015 on Network Ten, as a spin off to the original popular show, The Bachelor. Where a love-seeking female goes on dates with mostly hetrosexual males, although in its 7th and final season a bisexual bachelorette dated both male and female contestants. The show has been off air since June 2022, due to poor ratings and a desire to focus on the flagship show The Bachelor.

Bachelor in Paradise

Despite Bachelor in Paradise giving past contestants of the parent show The Bachelor another shot at love, albeit in a tropical environment. Viewers in Australia weren’t so kind, and the show was axed after the third season in October 2020 by Network Ten, citing poor ratings and a lack of audience engagement as factors.
